Italian glass designer Carlo Nason was born in 1935 in Murano, Venice, he comes from a family of skilled glassblowers. His father, Vincenzo Nason, ran the well-known glass company Nason Moretti. Carlo received a solid education early on in the art of glassblowing and learned both about the properties of the material and about the rich craft tradition found in Murano.
Driven by his passion for design, especially pure geometric shapes, Carlo Nason chose instead to focus on designing glass lighting in a modernist style. The family's business specialized in the production of traditional, richly decorated decorative objects.
The intention was initially to produce objects himself in small exclusive editions but soon his experimental and innovative creations caught the attention of the Murano glass lighting producer AV Mazzega. The company invited Nason to collaborate on new collections. The partnership that lasted from 1965 to the 1980s resulted in a range of iconic lighting designs that are still in demand today. Parallel to the collaboration with AV Mazzega, Nason also produced designs for other important Murano glass companies such as Vistosi and Firme di Vetro.
Carlo Nason's work has been exhibited for decades in a number of art and design museums and galleries in Paris, Milan and New York.
