About us
Read about our history and hear our colorful founder Christian Quaglia himself tell us about the philosophy behind what is now Brandstationen - the toy store for us grown up children!
Our history
The old Brandstationen
When the Brandstationen ('The Fire Station' in Swedish) first opened its doors in 2009, it was in the then over 100-year-old Maria Fire Station at Krukmakargatan 22. The building was built in 1902 and inaugurated the following year as part of Stockholm's growing network of fire stations. It long served as an important substation on Södermalm, where firefighters were ready to respond to protect the city.
2014
Hornsgatan 64
In 2014, Brandstationen moved to Hornsgatan 64, where we still have our shop and studio. The move allowed us to grow into a larger space, while also finding a new home with architecture reminiscent of our origins. The large arched display windows facing Hornsgatan evoke the old fire station doors on Krukmakargatan and convey a sense of openness, history, and continuity.
Today, Hornsgatan 64 functions as both a shop, studio, and meeting place for those who appreciate timeless design, unique vintage items, and carefully selected objects with character. Here, we continue to build upon what began in the old Maria fire station – a place where objects with history are given new life and new contexts.
