Verner Panton – A Visionary in Color and Form

Verner Panton (1926–1998) is one of the most iconic designers of modern times, known for his groundbreaking work and experimental approach to materials, forms and above all – color. With his unique vision and passion for the avant-garde, he created timeless works that still inspire and fascinate.

Panton believed that color had not only an aesthetic function but also a central and practical role in design. He used color as a powerful tool to emphasize dynamic forms and create environments that were both playful and functional. "How do you communicate with color? And why are so many people afraid to use it?" were questions he often asked, according to his daughter, Carin Panton.

Education and Career

After an apprenticeship with architect and designer Arne Jacobsen at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Panton chose to focus on furniture and interior design. He gained his knowledge and experience by traveling throughout Europe before settling in Basel, Switzerland. During the 1960s and 1970s, he delved into creating complete environments with his futuristic patterns and designs for furniture, lighting and textiles.

Iconic Works

Panton’s design language was reflected in every detail he created. His most famous work, the Flowerpot lamp from 1968, is a perfect example of his vision – a combination of timelessness, function and joy. Available in a range of vibrant colours, the lamp is as relevant today as it was when it was launched. Other classics such as the Topan lamp (1959) and the Wire Stool (1971) continue to be beloved favourites and modern design touches.
