Italian craft & design history
The island of Murano outside Venice, Italy, is world-famous for its glassmaking, which has been practiced since the Middle Ages. Over the years, glassblowers have developed techniques that are still used today, including Cristallo, Lattimo, Aventurine and Millefiori.
During the 20th century, Murano glass experienced a new renaissance with prominent producers such as Venini, Barovier & Toso, Mazzega and La Murrina. Renowned designers such as Paolo Venini , Carlo Nason and Carlo Scarpa created incredible lamps and objects that helped give glass a modern, artistic touch and solidify Murano as an international design icon.
At Brandstationen you will find both vintage and newly produced Murano lamps in a wide range of colors and shapes – perfect for those who want to give your home an elegant touch of design history. These lamps are not just light sources, but an artistic detail that lifts the entire room.

SPACE AGE
Bold shapes and colors
Timeless futurism
Space Age design emerged in the 1960s and 70s, inspired by space exploration, futuristic visions and technological advances. It is characterized by organic, almost biomorphic shapes, playful and bold colors, and experiments with new materials and lighting effects. Lamps, furniture and interior design details became more than just functional – they became expressions of optimism, modernity and visionary aesthetics.
Carlo Nason and AV Mazzega – the futuristic masters of Murano glass.
Carlo Nason, working at the legendary glassworks AV Mazzega , took the Space Age aesthetic to new heights in Murano glass. His hand-blown lamps combine sculptural design with technically advanced glasswork, with each lamp unique in shape and color. Models like Birillo and Atomo demonstrate how light, glass and form can interact to create dynamic, almost living objects.
Gaetano Sciolari – metal and futuristic light
In parallel with Nason's glass creations, Gaetano Sciolari contributed to the Space Age aesthetic with his iconic metal lamps. Sciolari experimented with chrome, brass and aluminium to create futuristic ceiling and wall lamps that reflected and scattered light in new, dramatic ways. His designs complemented the playful shapes and colours of Murano glass and became a hallmark of the glamour and innovation of Space Age lamps.
