His timeless designs – often featuring winding plant motifs and botanical details – continue to fascinate and inspire today.
Compton was designed in 1895 by John Henry Dearle for William Morris & Co., originally for Compton Hall in Wolverhampton. This pattern is characterised by its dense floral and foliage patterns in symmetrical, organic movements, with accents of acanthus leaves and stylised flowers. Compton combines vibrant colour with a sophisticated depth that gives a sense of both tradition and timeless elegance.
