Ernst Billgren x Kosta Boda – New Friends
Ernst Billgren is one of Sweden's most well-known and versatile artists, constantly relevant and always with his own expression. With a playful mind and a deep connection to nature's design language, he moves freely between different materials and techniques. In collaboration with the historic glassworks Kosta Boda, he has created one of our absolute favorite series - New Friends .
Launched in 2008 and still just as beloved, New Friends is a collection where glass meets animals in a quirky and beautiful way. At the bottom of each glass rests a small animal – perhaps a frog, a bear or a fox – as a surprising and poetic detail. The glasses are mouth-blown in Småland by Kosta Boda’s skilled craftsmen, and every detail is executed with precision and feeling.
New Friends are not just beautiful objects to set the table with – they also invite conversation, laughter and new acquaintances. Because surely there is something special about sharing a glass together? Perhaps with a small animal as company at the bottom.
